Le château de Chiré en Montreuil

Construit sur un imposant éperon rocheux qui domine le village, ce château du XVè siècle est une motte forte défensive. Il fut édifié autour d'une tour carrée qui recèle un souterrain refuge, comportant 60 mètres de galeries.

A quelques mètres du logis, vous apercevrez un des plus importants pigeonniers de la région qui a conservé ses 2000 boulins et sa place d'envole en pierre de taille où se reposaient les pigeons au retour de leurs pérégrinations.

Aujourd'hui propriété de la commune, le château fait l'objet d'importants travaux de restauration et de fouilles archéologiques régulières.

Built on an imposing rocky spur that dominates the village, this 15th century castle is a defensive motte. It was built around a square tower which conceals an underground refuge, comprising 60 meters of galleries. 

A few meters from the house, you will see one of the most important pigeon houses of the region which has kept its 2000 bolts and its place of flight in stone where the pigeons rested when they returned from their peregrinations. 

Today, the castle is owned by the commune and is the object of important restoration work and regular archaeological excavations.
