LAS DUNAS OOLITICAS FOSILES DE LOS ESCULLOS
Se trata del primer earthcache de la provincia de Almería que se encuentra en el corazón del Parque Natural del Cabo de Gata.
Es un interesante proceso geológico con diversidad de formas.
En la costa de Cabo de Gata se identifican hasta tres fases de formación de dunas a lo largo del cuaternario.
La primera fase consiste en dunas grises muy cementadas con una edad comprendida entre 250.00 y 180.000 años.
La segunda, en dunas oolíticas de color blanco, de entre 128.000 y 100.000 años.
Y la tercera, por dunas grises sin cementar que se formaron desde hace unos 6.000 años a la actualidad.
Todas estas dunas se formaron debido a la acumulación de las arenas de la playa en la propia zona litoral. Su composición arroja, por tanto, mucha información sobre como eran las condiciones ambientales del mar y de la costa en su momento de formación.
En la ensenada de los Escullos se reconoce el mejor afloramiento de dunas oolíticas de todo el litoral almeriense .Estas a diferencia de las demás, están formadas por granos redondeados denominados oolitos.
Los oolitos son pequeñas partículas esféricas que se forman alrededor de un núcleo constituido por un grano de arena en los fondos marinos de mares calidos a poca profundidad.

DUNES OOLITE FOSSILS ESCULLOS
This is the first earthcache in the province of Almería is located in the heart of Natural Park of Cabo de Gata.
It is an interesting geological process with a variety of ways.
On the coast of Cabo de Gata are identified three phases of dune formation during the Quaternary.
The first phase is very gray dunes cemented with an age range between 250.00 and 180,000 years.
The second, white oolitic dunes, between 128,000 and 100,000 years.
And the third for uncemented gray dunes were formed about 6,000 years ago to the present. All these dunes were formed by the accumulation of sand on the beach in the coastal zone itself. Their composition yields, therefore, lots of information about environmental conditions were the sea and the coast at the time of formation. In Escullos Cove recognizes the best outcrop of oolitic dunes around the coast of Almeria. These, unlike the other, consist of rounded grains called oolites.
The oolites are small spherical particles that are formed around a core consisting of a grain of sand on the seabed in shallow warm seas.
