Happy International EarthCache Day 2018!
Event time: 11:00 - 11:30 AM just inside the main gate
What better location for an event on the quieter side than beautiful, peaceful Mt. Albion Cemetery (14925 Telegraph Rd, Albion, NY 14411). If you have never been here, enjoy this park-like setting and appreciate the glacial landform left behind by the “Ice Age.”
Introvert friendly event! No hello or small talk required! No one will think anything of it if you don't talk to anyone! This aspect of the event was inspired by another event ( https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC5AAPQ_introvert-event-cache ) because I do know how anxiety-inducing it can be to go to an event where you know no one or next to no one. So if that’s been keeping you from attending an event, now’s your chance! :)
Posted coords are for a small parking area just inside the main gate (see photo of beautiful arched entrance) that will hold 6 or 7 cars. Note: Be considerate when choosing a parking spot -- I promised the cemetery supervisor that we would not cause any congestion in the parking area or on any of the in-cemetery roads, so that we do not make it difficult for anyone who might be there to visit a loved one's grave site or for those who regularly walk at the cemetery.
If you stay to cache after the event time, I recommend picking up one of the brochures/maps just between the main gate and the parking area to help you navigate the one-lane roads throughout the cemetery.
Point of interest (see additional waypoint): Soldiers and Sailors Civil War Monument -- a 68-foot tower made of Medina sandstone with an 84-step spiral staircase leading up to a gorgeous view of the cemetery grounds and surrounding countryside. Some history: https://orleanshub.com/mount-albion-tower-the-great-smalltown-civil-war-memorial/
At the top of the tower is a “triangulation station” benchmark, for those of you who enjoy finding and logging those.
The cemetery is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year:

A big thank-you to Jason Zicara, cemetery supervisor, for approving this event!
