Markedet i Skibotn hadde sin storhetstid på 1800-tallet og var det største og viktigste handelsmarkedet i Nord-Troms. Av de gamle handelsbodene på markedsplassen er bare to bevart. Disse er sannsynligvis de eneste bygningene som er igjen etter markedshandelen på Nordkalotten. Sammen med to rekonstruerte handelsboder danner disse museumsområdet Markedsplassen. I 2003 ble det i tillegg satt opp en smie og en vippebrønn på området. Bodene rommer i dag ei utstilling som ved hjelp av bilder, tekst, gjenstander og lydkulisser gir et innblikk i det gamle markedslivet. Skibotn marked hadde stor betydning som misjonsmark og samlingsplass for læstadianerne. Utstillinga inneholder et forsamlingsrom hvor publikum kan lytte på 50 år gamle lydopptak av læstadiansk salmesang og preken. Markedsplassen har faste åpningstider i juli måned (se åpningstider). Markedsplassen har også avdelingskontor og museumsbutikk.

The market in Skibotn had its heyday in the 1800s and was the largest and most important commercial market in North Troms. Of the old trading stalls at the market place is only two survived. These are probably the only buildings left by market trade in northern Scandinavia. Together with two reconstructed trade stalls forming the museum area Market Square. In 2003, it was also set up a forge and a tilt well on the site. The stalls can accommodate today an exhibition with pictures, text, objects and lydkulisser provides insight into the old market life. Skibotn market was of great importance as a mission field and gathering place for Laestadians. The exhibition includes a forsamlingsrom where the public can listen in the 50-year-old audio recording of Laestadian hymn singing and preaching. The marketplace has fixed opening hours in July (see opening hours). The Marketplace also has a branch office and museum shop.
