WHAT: World Wide Flash Mob XIV
A fun and friendly way to promote geocaching around the world. Thousands of geocachers at dozens of coordinated events spanning the globe, gathering at the same time. Sonny and Sandy of the PodCacher podcast came up with the WWFM idea in 2007 after attending a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event: all the cool aspects of a geocaching event, crammed into 15 minutes of excitement. An added dimension is represented by the letters "WW" - World Wide - these events occur across the planet on the same day at (mostly) the same time!
A Flash Mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly disperse.
There is no official theme this year.
WHEN: Saturday, June 10, 2017, 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm
This Flash Mob is gathering of geocachers that will be only 30 minutes long and will be happening the same time and date all over the world. Even Australia being 17 hours ahead of Pacific Daylight Savings Time will be holding their event simultaneously with the US event at 03:00 on Sunday morning for the fun of joining in with the worldwide geocaching family.
WHERE: Abilene Community Theater parking lot
WHY: To have fun with your fellow geocachers, discover and/or trade trackables, and trade stories.
Last year WWFM had participants at 280 events in 27 countries, attended by 8,000 participants!
NOTE: There will NOT be an official Geocaching.com Souvenir this year in 2017.
