Geocache Description:

Located off of the Broken Arrow Trail. Quick hike in the woods.

Note: If you are the FTF, could you do me a favor? In my haste to go on vacation, I forgot to pack the standard Geocaching information letter in the cache. I did not have access to a printer while in Sedona so I could not print one out on the fly. If anyone would be so kind to drop one in the cache, I would forever greatful!

The Broken Arrow Trail is one of the best (albeit short) trails for 4x4'ing in AZ. Since noone has placed a cache off of the trail yet, I decided to place a 4x4 themed cache for you to find while exploring the area in your Jeep, etc. (Of course, you can always use the original "off-road" transportation, your feet, to get there :) Keep in mind that Broken Arrow is a single track jeep trail. Full sized pickups and SUVs WILL get, at a minimum, deep scratches due the trail width. (The trail was cut with Jeep Wranglers. My lifted Jeep Liberty had no problem negotiating trail.) Also, smaller, car-based SUVs (Rav4, CRVs, Escapes, etc.) will not be able to negotiate the trail. You need a low 4x4 range. There is an obstacle at the trailhead that was placed by the park service to help you determine if your vehicle can negotiate the trail. If you can make it over, you can drive the main portion of the trail. If you cannot make it over the obstacle, just park at the trailhead parking lot and hike the 1/4 mile to the cache.

One other thing I thought of...you will need to buy a Red Rock Pass to stop your vehicle anywhere in the Coconino National Forest. This includes stopping on any trail, trailhead, or parking lot. As of this writing, it is only $5 per day and can be purchased at many stores in Sedona.

FYI...I found that the best time to go off-roading at Broken Arrow is right at sunrise. After 8AM, the Pink Jeeps tours start running and you will have to compete with them for trail space.

Please try to stick to the 4x4/off-roading theme here if you make an exchange.

The original contents of the cache:
