Inertial's White Elephant Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Greonidas: Thanks to all who attended. A good time was had by all (I hope!).

For everyone's information, I used the ammo box I got as my swap gift when I hid "They're Always After Me Lucky Charms!" (GC11FMV).

Geocache Description:

You've all heard of White Elephant swaps. Come on out and participate in a geoswag swap! Difficulty and Terrain ratings reflect traffic on Route 60.

Okay, some of you may know it as a "Yankee Swap", but we're living in a more politically correct time these days, so we're going to call it a "White Elephant".

"What is a White Elephant?" you may ask.

The White Elephant gift exchange is a popular party game usually played during the Christmas season in the United States. The objective of the game is for guests of a party to each contribute one gift to the game, and ultimately each guest walks away with one different gift from the game. Along the way is a random drawing to determine the order in which players get to unwrap gifts or steal previously opened gifts.

The name "White Elephant" originates from an old Burmese cultural reference to the value of an albino elephant, which is considered sacred and must be well taken care of, despite the financial burden that it may bring to its owner. Therefore, the gifts exchanged may be large, delicate and/or utterly pointless for the recipient (e.g., a huge stuffed animal for someone who lives in a small apartment).

Specifics:

When:  Saturday, February 24, 2007.  9:00-11:00 am

Where:  Golden Corral, 11 South Providence, Rd, Richmond, VA, 804-320-5078

Who:  You!

How:  Just show up!  When you get there, ask for the CVGA reservation

We will be having a geocaching-themed White Elephant swap.  You don't have to participate in the swap to attend the event, but if you do decide you want the full experience you should bring some WRAPPED geo-swag valued between $9.99 and $14.99, pre-tax. No iPods, please!

Additional swap details will be worked out before the event.

See you there!

Post-event update: I've got photos!  Download the self-extracting zip file now! The file is rather large (35 MB), so please be patient. Bear in mind that my wife took most of these, so my kids and I feature fairly prominently. -Inertial
