Geocache Description:

This year i was fortunate enough to be given a virtual reward cache, one of only 4000 available.

At the listed coordinates you will find a large mural painted by Andrew Alleway and an assistant in November 2008, depicting scenes of history from the area and information regarding it, it was comissioned by Exeter city council as part of the re-building of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum which is nearby.

More has happened here than you might think...

Along with some iconic objects from the museum shown in the mural, Torsa's Cross divides the composition into two. On the right is Rougemont Castle and the many comings and goings through the centuries. Three Bideford witches are commemorated at the gate house of the castle with a plaque - artistic licence has placed them around a cauldron, Macbeth style. Exeter's links with the sea through its port, and the pirates that afflicted the city's shipping are also alluded to. On the left is the Phoenix Arts Centre, originally the University College of the South West, a Roman soldier and Gerald, the museums own giraffe.

From GZ head to waypoint one and it'll lead you through new buildings passage to the second mural, also painted by Alleway, which leads you through onto the cobblestones of Gandy street itself, where there is a variety of small independent less well known, but very interesting shops and bars.

To claim this cache you must post a picture of yourself or GPS device at either mural. Easy as that. You could be creative and make yourself part of the action in the murals 😁

Parking is available nearby in multi story carparks, disabled parking is available next to posted coordinates, after 6pm these spaces can be used by any vehicle

Enjoy exploring.
