Geocache Description:

Octoberfest began it's reign as a worldwide celebration in 1810 in Germany.  But, this year we are going to do it S.W.A.G.. style.  This is a family friendly event, unlike some Octoberfests that you may have attended.  We will be meeting at a local spot known for it's German influence and will celebrate with some fun, food, and German music.  Please, come join us for this S.W.A.G.. celebration whether you are new to geocaching or have been playing in our addiction for years.  We are looking forward to seeing you...

A bit of history on Octoberfest is offered up here in case you have never heard it or just want to renew your knowledge...

Oktoberfest (German pronunciation: [ɔkˈtoːbɐˌfɛst]) is the world's largest Volksfest (beer festival and traveling funfair). Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year. Locally, it is often called the Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds . The Oktoberfest is an important part of Barvarian culture, having been held since 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Octoberfest celebrations that are modeled after the original Munich event.

The Munich Oktoberfest originally took place in the 16-day period leading up to the first Sunday in October. In 1994, this longstanding schedule was modified in response to German reunification. As such, if the first Sunday in October falls on the 1st or the 2nd, then the festival would run until October 3 which is German Unity Day. Thus, the festival now runs for 17 days when the first Sunday is October 2 and 18 days when it is October 1. In 2010, the festival lasted until the first Monday in October, to mark the event's bicentennial. The festival is held in an area named the Theresienwiese for filed or meadow, often called the Wiesn for short, located near Munich's centre. During the event, large quantities of iOctoberfest Beer is consumed: during the 16-day festival in 2013, for example, 7.7 million litres were served.] Visitors also enjoy numerous attractions, such as  amusement rides, sidestalls and games. There is also a wide variety of traditional foods including Hendle which is roasted chicken, Schweinebraten or roasted port, Schweinshaxe known in other countries  as grilled ham hock. Steckerlfisch or grilled fish on a stick is a popular item, as well as Wursti or sausages and Brezen or pretzels.  One of this host's favorits is Knodel or potato dumplings.  Cheese noodles or Kasespatzle, potato pancakes or Reiberdatsche and Sauerkraut which is red cabbage are, also, favorites; along with such Bavarian delicacies as Obatzda and WeiBwurst.  Can you tell yet that Octoberfest is mainly about the beer, food and friends?

Come join in and have some German style fun...?

The event is set with the restaurant to begin at 6 pm and we will wrap it us about 8 pm. If you want to help wash dishes or sweep, you are welcome to stay longer. Please do not bring food from other establishments out of respect for the restaurant owners. Let's have some FUN!!!!
