The cache is located just outside the New Germany Nature Reserve.
On the hills overlooking New Germany and Pinetown lies the tiny New
Germany Nature Reserve. Although it is only 110 ha in extent it
still has a lot to offer the visitor.
The undulating trails lead you through the grassland with
occasional clumps of forest. The reserve is a host to a few species
of mammals such as impala, zebra, vervet monkeys and duiker. It
also has a substantial variety of bird species. In spring it is a
popular place to see wild flowers in bloom.
Another attraction at the reserve is the large walk-in aviary
featuring a wide variety of indigenous bird species. There is also
a small interpretation centre at the entrance. The reserve is
administered by the New Germany Parks Department.
The reserve is open from 7:30 to 17:00 seven days a week. Entrance
is free, but please leave a small donation.
