Geocache Description:

An ammo can in a beautiful location on the Cornell campus. This regular-sized cache invites you to the reopened Cascadilla Glen Trail, which connects downtown Ithaca with the Cornell campus along a gorge carved by Cascadilla Creek. Due to extremely dangerous winter conditions, the trail is typically closed from late November through mid April; any finds made when the trail is closed will be deleted.

The Cascadilla Glen Trail (closed since 2008) reopened in fall 2014. The trail is only a 1/2 mile long but treats visitors to several waterfalls and provides a stunning natural location tucked between downtown Ithaca and the Cornell campus. The trail has steep stone steps and can be slippery - please use caution.

To me, this area embodies the very essence of an Ithaca gorge and I have fond memories of finding an early (2001) cache along this trail - CacheCadilla: http://coord.info/GCC53. I wanted to place an additional regular-sized cache along this gem of a trail and found that there was just one perfect place. The only problem was that, at the time, there was another cache (a micro in a parking lot) that was too close. So my container overwintered in place, and this spring I found that not only had it survived the winter unscathed but that the other cache had been archived, thereby freeing the spot! So a traditional ammo can now awaits you at a very worthy destination.

You do not need to leave the trail to reach the cache. As it is a well-traveled area, please rehide completely. If the gates (see waypoints) are closed, the trail is off-limits for safety. The trail is closed sunset to sunrise, and also during the winter: any finds that violate gorge regulations will be deleted. See photo for all gorge regulations.

Walking the full trail is definitely worthwhile but the cache is close to the top entrance. There is metered parking along East Buffalo Street.
