Geocache Description:

The origin of the Chorros de Epina is, like many things in La Gomera, mysterious and even mystical.

Nestled in the middle of nature, a few hundred meters from the village of Epina, popular tradition has come to consider that its water has healing properties.

The inhabitants of a mostly arid island of La Gomera have always maintained a special relationship with water. It is hardly surprising therefore, that there are legends concerning some of the springs such as Chorros de Epina. “If you drink from the seven spouts, you’ll marry before the year is out!”

To find their true love, women should drink from the even-numbered spouts and men from the odd-numbered (counting from the left); however women wishing to be witches should drink from the men’s.

Wealthy families from Vallehermoso used to send their servants to Epina for fresh water, and to make sure there was no trickery, they had to bring a leaf from the old Aderno tree (Ardisia Bahamensis) growing there!
