This is the site of the General Light House Depot that operated from 1862 to 1978. This factory built lamps and other nautical equipment for light houses world wide. The site has recently been selected as the site of the future National Lighthouse Museum. Six of the original thirteen buildings still stand and renovations are currently underway. Some of the buildings still standing are the lamp shops, barracks, the fuel vaults and administration building.
The Museum is currently under construction, but they have opened the education center to teach people about the future museum, they also have several small exhibits and boat tours to see local light houses.
