Geocache Description:

“Michigan Spirit Quest”

The Michigan Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by MICHIGAN Pioneers. This series is inspired by and is a continuation of the Indiana Spirit Quest caches created by SixDogTeam. In just over two and a half years, the SPIRIT QUEST has grown to over five hundred and fifty caches and the hiders have grown to twenty-five cacher teams in 3 states and one province, most of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 1,000 cachers have logged over 20,000 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

"Eternal Bridge View"

Welcome to Lakeside Cemetery in St. Ignace, Mackinac county, Michigan. Lakeside Cemetery is the final resting place of Prentiss Marsh Brown, a lawyer and politician. Born in St. Ignace on June 18, 1889, he lived in St. Ignace till he attended the University of Illinois at Urbana and graduated from Albion College in 1911. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1914 and commenced practice in St. Ignace, Michigan. He was the prosecuting attorney of Mackinac County 1914-1926 and city attorney of St. Ignace 1916-1928. He was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1924 to the Sixty-ninth Congress and for election in 1928 as justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. He was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third Congress and re-elected to the Seventy-fourth Congress and served from March 4, 1933, until his resignation, effective November 18, 1936. He was elected as a Democrat on November 3, 1936 to the United States Senate for the term beginning January 3, 1937, but was subsequently appointed to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of James Couzens for the term ending January 3, 1937. He served from November 19, 1936, to January 3, 1943. In 1942, he ran an unsuccessful campaign for his re-election. He resumed the practice of law in Washington, D.C., and Detroit, Michigan. He was the chairman of the Mackinac Bridge Authority until his death in St. Ignace, Michigan, where he died December 19, 1973 and was laid to rest in Lakeside Cemetery.

Since Mr. Brown was the chairman of the Mackinac Bridge Authority until his death, I feel that he would enjoy the view of the Mackinac Bridge that you get from this cemetery.
