Geocache Description:

[LV] !!!

Cerams, ka iepriekšējais atradējs to ir labi nomaskējis!

Izbaudiet Abavas ieleju!

[ENG] !!! Please hide it very carefully when replacing the cache, so it doesn't disturb other tourists!

Route of the school hike at the 3rd grade many years ago! 😎

Nowadays, the Swedish Cap is mostly known for the rodel track in summer and skiing opportunities in winter. But actually the Swedish Cap (alternative name - Piltiņkalns) is cult place - hill that was shovelled by Swedish soldiers using their hats in 17th century to bury their general and his wife. Another legend says that, after fights, 200 soldiers were burried here with their horses, general and his wife. Different legend tells that the hill was shovelled by Russian soldiers with military purposes - for protection or for shooting guns to Sabile. What's the true story - you may ask those old trees on top of "the cap"!

Suggested access is from Sabile via hiking path (car access on Barona Street as long as you can drive). Alternative is via parking lot of rodel track, which is closer, but will attract more attention of mugglers in working hours or, out of working hours, it felt rather uncomfortable to be on the premises. However, the Swedish Cap is public historical object with free and unrestricted access.

The cache itself is a simple PET preform. Hopefully, well hidden by previous cachers!

Happy geocaching, and enjoy Abava Valley!
