Geocache Description:

Deck of Cards Series

I do not save the log sheets from this series. If a log sheet is wet or missing, please feel free to replace it. Thanks.

There are a lot of great caches in Galena. Unfortunately there is limited room for more. But we need more caches for our visitors. My answer is to surround Galena with caches. Project GC tracks caches found by owner. I am working on finding 100 caches from each of 20 owners. I think it is only fair that I have 100 caches for them to find. I need about 50 more hides to end up with over 100 active caches. What is a number around 50? 52 - a Deck of Cards!

I will place caches 4 at a time. I will try to add interesting information about each. All the history in Galena is not in town. I hope you enjoy this series.

The Face cards are all located between US Rte 20 and the Mississippi River southeast of Galena. Notice that the roads are hillier near the river. East Galena and Rice Townships are where my German ancestors settled. Actually they were from Prussia back before Germany was formed.

The Jacks are located along N Irish Hollow Road. The Irish miners arrived in the Galena Area before the German farmers.

The  Jack of Clubs  is located at the intersection of S Irish Hollow Road and S Devils Ladder Road.

Devils Ladder road is just that. It climbs out of Irish Hollow and then goes back down to US Rte 20 . I don't know if that valley has a name but it is at the same elevation as Smallpox Creek. Smallpox Creek is the drainage for Lake Galena in Galena Territory. Devils Ladder road is not straight and not flat. Hopefully after finding my card caches you will explore some of the county roads.

Speaking of roads. If you continue south from here on Irish Hollow Road there is one more road that connects to Blackjack Road. It is named S Girot Hill Road. It will take you to W Blackjack Road where you can pick up the Queens on the way back to Galena.
