Geocache Description:

Warning: The cache is outside the structure. You DO NOT NEED TO MOVE ANY ROCKS TO SEE THE CACHE! You may need to move a rock to retrieve it. If you go inside and start pulling on parts of the structure, you may be injured.

This cache is near one of many stone structures found in Patapsco State Park. When hidden in 2003, the structure had four walls, a door, and most of a roof. Weather has wreaked havoc on it and many other historic buildings in the park, and there is now no roof and about 2-1/2 walls. Still, it's a wonderful quiet location. The fun in this cache is getting there. If you aren't from the area, make sure to stop by historic Sykesville a few miles away. There is great tea and scones at Sweet Simpliciti, good value food at E.W. Becks, and a host of cute stores in historic buildings. Baldwin's restaurant is in a historic train station, and though a bit pricier, pretty good. This is an off-trail moderate hike (~0.5-1 mile) to a historical location through open forest or bushy area, depending on approach. The cache is easy to find once there. This cache is intended as a game variant on travel bugs and offset caches. The coordinates given here are not the actual coordinates of the cache but are in the general area. To obtain the real coordinates you must find a Bonus Cache Card in another cache. The caches which contain these bonus cache cards should be listed here in the logs.

The game. The bonus cache cards move around the area, with their retrievals and placements logged on this page. This page should give the caches where the cards are currently located. When you find a cache card with the Forgotten History coordinates on it, please move the card to another cache in the area. Please log the find, and the subsequent placement in a new cache, here, so that the movement of the cards can be tracked and the next person knows where to find them. We plan to put at least four cards in circulation.

Once you have the coordinates, here are a few notes about approaching. There is a road which is relatively near the cache, however, it is a one-lane residential road without parking. You can park at the "hunters parking lot" just outside of Freedom Park and bush wack. This approach is good in late-Fall to early Spring. The terrain can be wet and the way unclear - just keep trying and you'll find a dry, not so thorny path. You can also park at Freedom Park and come via the longer route in the woods. There were not trails beyond what I could call animal trails, however, the forest is quite open and the brush is rarely above knee height. I did get the odd scrape from a sticky bush, but overall not too bad. I No matter what route you do, you'll have to do some bushwacking through the forest. The hike isn't too bad. It took about 25 minutes for me to do almost entirely through forest. Several people have come by crossing the river.

The cache is a small plastic container. This really isn't a cache appropriate for younger children because of the hike.

Hope you enjoy and look forward to your tales!
