Os geocachers do mundo inteiro estão contratados para encontrar a Cache Perdida que, segundo o site geocaching.com, foi trazida de Aboim da Nóbrega por Fernando Rei e conterá um valioso tesouro que não pode ser levantado na totalidade. Para que o infortúnio não os acompanhe deverão apenas trocar parte do tesouro e registar no logbook a aventura vivida. Qualquer geocaher terá como adversário um exército de geocacchers sedentos de tesouros, podendo contar ainda com a incómoda presença, ainda que remota, de muggles.
O que aconteceu com a Cache Perdida?
A história da Cache Perdida começa numa cache page, em que Fernando Rei deu instruções para fabricar um container:
"Faça com que fabriquem um container, de trinta e dois cm de comprimento, vinte e cinco de largura e doze de altura. Pinte-se de verde, tanto por dentro como por fora, e faça uma pega móvel na parte superior alçada por dois cilindros metálicos e coloquem-se outros quatros na parte inferior, que a sustentarão. Dentro do container coloquem-se as mais valiosas relíquias e tesouros."
Ninguém sabe hoje exactamente de que material é feito (ainda que alguns especulem que poderia ser de um polímero qualquer). Contudo, as instruções claramente apontavam para um container com medidas large.
A construção de tão valiosa cache suscitou alvoroço na comunidade, sentindo Fernando Rei necessidade de escondê-la dos olhares mais cobiçosos. Assim, num dia de chuva e nevoeiro cerrado, de manhã muito cedo, esse destemido geocacher fez-se à Serra Amarela, onde escondeu a Cache Perdida.
Numa publicação online, Fernando Rei, deixou escrito que o tesouro só deve ser tocado por geocachers experientes, curiosos e aventureiros. Informou também que na busca devem ir, preferencialmente, acompanhados, para que, em caso de desgraça, alguém fique para contar.
Para despistar o acesso a cobiçosos e a muggles curiosos, escondeu três Chaves durante o percurso, sem as quais o tesouro continuará inacessível. É aqui que começa o mistério da localização da Cache Perdida. Há quem sugira que foi escondida no Castelinho, alguns textos antigos sugerem que esta localização poderia estar na beira leste do rio Furnas. Para alguns estudiosos é mais provável que a cache fosse escondida na beira oeste do Fojo Velho de Vilarinho, e se localizaria em alguma das covas do Fojo. Há quem defenda também que poderá estar nas Casarotas, junto à Chã do Salgueiral. Todas estas possibilidades intrigantes são especulações feitas através do Google Earth e de cartas militares, baseadas nas localizações legadas pelo owner das três chaves que dão acesso à Cache Perdida:

Os últimos rastos de Fernando Rei foram vistos em N41º46.432 W008º13.891. Aqui começou a caminhada assinalando-a com traços brancos e amarelos e de altos “Mandriões”/”Mariolas”. Os mais aventureiros podem apear neste local.
RAIDERS OF THE LOST CACHE
Worldwide geocachers have been hired to find a lost cache that, according to the site geocaching.com, was brought from Aboim da Nóbrega by Fernando Rei and would hold a valuable treasure that may not be taken in its totality. So that misfortune does not accompany you, you shall only exchange part of the treasure and register in the logbook the lived adventure. Any geocacher shall have as adversaries, an army of treasure hungry geocachers and the annoying presence, although unlikely, of muggles.
What happened to the Lost cache?
The story of the lost cache begins in a cache page, in which Fernando Rei gave instructions for a container to be made.
“May a container thirty-two cm long twenty-five cm wide and twelve cm high be made. It shall be painted green, both inside and out, and it shall have a handle in the upper part held by two metal cylinders and another four on the bottom , which will hold it. Inside the most valuable relics and treasures shall be placed.”
Today, no one knows exactly what material was used to make it (although some speculate that it could be a polymer of sorts). Anyway, instructions clearly indicate it being a large container.
The construction of such a valuable container raised such a stir amongst the community, that Fernando Rei felt the need to hide it from greedy prying eyes. So, one rainy, foggy day , early in the morning, this fearless geocacher made his way to the Serra Amarela, where he hide this Lost Cache.
In an on-line publication Fernando Rei left written that the treasure may only be touched by curious, adventurous and experienced geocachers. He informed as well, that in the search, it is best no to go alone so that in case of misshape someone shall live to tell the tale.
To throw off the greedy and curious muggles, he hid three keys along the way, without which, the treasure shall remain inaccessible. Here is the beginning of the mystery of the location of the Lost Cache. Some suggest that it was hidden in the Castelinho (little Castle), some ancient text suggest that this location could be in the lest side of the Furnas River. To some scholars it would be most probable that the cache were hidden in the west side of the Old Fojo of Vilarinho, and would be found in some of the Fojo´s holes. Some will also argue that it could be in the “Casarotas”, near the Cha do Salgueiral. All these intriguing possibilities are mere speculations made through Google Earth and military charts, based on the locations left by the owner of the three keys that grant access to the Lost Cache.

Fernando Rei’s last traces were seen at N41º46.432 W008º13.891. Here he started the walk marking it with white and yellow traces and high ”Mandrioes”/”Mariolas”. The most adventurous may appear at this location.
