Geocache Description:

To get to Ft. Snelling State Park, exit from highway 5 at Post Road (near the airport) and follow the signs - it's in the river bottoms. All vehicles entering this or any state park are required to have either a daily or annual entry permit. Park in the lot at the trailhead (a waypoint for the trailhead is included). There is a very nice visitor's center at the trailhead.

This cache will involve a moderately long but easy hike of 1.7 miles each way over flat terrain. If you walk slow and quietly, you'll probably see some of the ample wildlife along the way.

The cache itself is an ammo can (4" x 7" x 10") and is located at the northeast end of Pike Island. Here, the largest rivers in Minnesota come together. Once you've made the hike, you might just as well "do" the Earthcache at the same location. You'll find out more about the river confluence and local geography at the web page for that cache. Please hide the container as good or better than you found it. It's very near a location frequented by hikers.
