Ein kleiner Spaziergang im Geopark Odenwald-Bergstraße.
A wee promenade in the Odenwald-Bergstraße Geopark (English
description below)
Deutsche Beschreibung
Die Geopark-Region Bergstraße-Odenwald umfasst ca. 3.500 km²
zwischen Rhein und Main, Neckar und Grube Messel. Das Motto des
Geoparks ist "Zwischen Granit und Sandstein - Kontinente in
Bewegung" und deutet auf die 500 Millionen Jahre Erdgeschichte hin
die sich im Geopark widerspiegeln. Dieser Cache soll Euch die
Steinsorten die es im Geopark zu finden gibt näher bringen.
Der Geopark umschließt die ehemalige Nahtstelle von zwei
Urkontinenten. Vor langer Zeit kolidierten diese beiden Kontinente
als magmatischer (oder vulkanischer) Bogen. Das Ergebnis dieser
Kollision prägt die Landschaft bis heute.
Die Koordinaten führen Euch an die "Wein- und Steinflasche" die zum
Erlebnispfad Wein und Stein gehört. Dieser knapp 7 km lange Rundweg
ist übrigens sehr zu empfehlen, für den Cache aber nicht zwingend
zu absolvieren. In der Flasche findet Ihr die folgenden
Gesteinsarten die auch im Geopark vertreten sind (hier in
alphabetischer Ordnung, nicht wie sie in der Flasche sind):
Basalt, Gabbro, Gneis, Granit, Muschelkalk, Rheinkiesel und
Sandstein.
Auf der begleitenden Infotafel finden sich noch viele weitere
Informationen zu den Gesteinsarten, deren Entstehungszeit und deren
Zusammensetzung. Außerdem findet sich dort ein geologisches
Blockbild. Nutzt diese Tafel um die folgenden Fragen zu
beantworten:
a) Wo im der Geoparkregion findet man das zweite Gestein von unten
hauptsächlich?
b) Um welche Art von Gestein handelt es sich bei dem zweiten
Gestein von oben? Aus welcher Zeit stammt es?
c) Schaut Euch das geologische Blockbild an; welches Gestein macht
den Großteil der Geoparkregion neben Rheinkiesel aus?
d) Wieviele Tonnen schätzt Ihr wiegt die Steinflasche?
Wenn Ihr weiter (oder zurück) geht, dann macht bitte noch ein
Foto. Das Foto soll das aktuelle Datum (z.B. auf dem GPS
oder, ganz altmodisch, die Tageszeitung) sowie einen Repräsentant
eines der Gesteinsarten in der Flasche zeigen. Das kann eine
Skulptur des Wein und Stein Wegs sein, ein Stein in der Mauer einer
Winzerhütte oder was Euch sonst so über den Weg läuft.
(Gemäß Guidelines ist dieses Foto natürlich optional. Ein Fehlen
führt nicht zur Löschung des Logs. Trotzdem würde ich mich über ein
Foto sehr freuen.)
Bitte schick mir ein Mail mit Euren Antworten über mein
GC-Profil. Das Foto braucht ihr nicht per Nachricht zu
schicken, es reicht es ans Log anzuhängen.
Nachdem Ihr Eure Antworten geschickt habt,
loggt Euren Besuch sofort online (wartet nicht auf meine
Bestätigung). Sollten Eure Antworten nicht korrekt sein dann melde
ich mich schon. Logs ohne Mail mit den Lösungen muss ich leider
wieder löschen.

English Description
The Bergstraße-Odenwald Geopark comprises around 3,500 km² between
Rhine and Main, Neckar and Messel pit. The slogan of the Geopark is
"Between Granite and Sandstone - Continents on the Move"; it
indicates the 500 million years of global history which is
reflected in the Geopark. This Cache shall teach you some more
about the different types of stone which can be found in the
Geopark.
The Geopark encloses the previous joint of two past continents. A
long time ago, those two continents colided as magmatic arc. The
result of this collision gives distinction to the landscape until
today.
The coordinates guide you to the "Wine- and Stonebottle" which is a
part of the adventure trail "Wein und Stein". This trail of just
under 7 km is very recommendable by the way, but it is not
necessary to walk it in order to complete this cache. In the bottle
you can find the following types of stone which are also
represented all over the geopark (here in alphabetical order, not
in the order how they are in the bottle):
basalt, gabbro, gneiss, granite, lacustrine limestone, rhine-pebble
and sandstone.
On the information display beside the bottle there is much more
information on the stones, the age when they came to be and their
composition. Additionally you can find a geological block diagram
of the area. Use the displayed information to answer the following
questions:
a) The type of stone displayed second from the bottom, where in the
Geopark can it be found the most?
b) Which type of stone is the second from the top? In which age was
it formed?
c) Look at the block diagram; which type of stone is dominating on
the surface of the Geopark besides the rhine-pebble?
d) How many tons do you estimate the bottle weighs?
When you walk on (or back) I would appreciate if you could take a
picture. The picture shall show the current date (e.g. on
your GPS or, very traditionally, the newspaper of the day) and a
representative of one of the types of stone in the bottle. This can
be a stone-sculpture on the "Wein und Stein" trail, it can be a
stone in a wall of a cottage of a winegrower, or whatever else you
stumble across.
(According to GC Guidelines, the picture is optional. I will not
delete logs having no picture. Nevertheless I would be very happy
if you could take and upload one.)
Please send the answers to the questions in a message via my
GC profile. It is not necessary to send the picture in the
message, it is sufficient to attach it to your log.
Immediately log your visit online after having
sent the answers. It is not necessary to wait for my confirmation -
I will contact you in case there are errors in your answers. Should
I not get an answer from you although you have logged, I will have
to delete your log again (after a couple of days).
