Geocache Description:

"I believe that adventure is about stretching yourself: mentally, physically or culturally. It is about doing what you do not normally do, pushing yourself hard and doing it to the best of your ability. If that is true then adventure is all around us, at all times. Adventure is accessible to normal people, in normal places, in short segments of time and without having to spend much money.

Adventure is only a state of mind."

#microadventure - climbing

What: A Thursday night microadventure

When: 21st April 2016 - 18:07 until 23:32

Where: Eight Mile Plains

Why: Because life is too short for boring

This event will send you on a little adventure - a microadventure. If you don't know what that is, just watch the video below.

Geocachers in Australia have a great history of adventurous events. This time we're going vertical in the middle of the night. The get together has been inspired by the German event Turmspringen 2.0 im Suderburger Cacherland which will happen later in the year.

climbing

We're going tree-climbing but that's not the whole story: To make things interesting we're also doing it at night. This is an event from friends for friends. Nobody of the attendees has a professional qualification so therefore your safety lies within your own hands. I will make this as safe as possible but can't accept any liability. By participating in this event, you agree to this and the Safety Warnings below.

At the coordinates is a little park with great technical tree climbing opportunities. Close by is a tiny pavillion and some picnic tables.

Are you intrigued? Then log your will attend and come along for a mid-week adventure. Please let me know in your log how many climbers will attend. Now you probably have a couple of questions which I tried to anticipate:

FAQs

Can I attend without climbing?
Yes - like our friends in Germany we welcome all curious, chatty, friendly or interested cachers and muggles.

What happens if it rains?
If severe conditions are expected like a thunderstorm, extreme winds or a zombie outbreak, I have to cancel the climbing part. However a little bit of rain doesn't hurt and it is an adventure after all.

What do I need to wear?
Comfortable clothing suitable for the weather. Loose fitting trousers are good. Wear firm fitting footwear, training or running shoes are suitable and bring a jacket, just in case the weather changes. Please make sure you get enough warm and waterproof clothing because climbing will go ahead in light rain.

Will it be dark?
Yes. Pitch-black actually so bring a torch. Of course a head-torch is ideal.

Do I need to bring any gear?
I'm only able to bring limited amounts of gear from Melbourne so if you do have climbing gear, bring it along. Please read the Safety Warnings below.

Who are you and what's the Bushrangers Women's Walking Club?
My name is Philipp and I'm a cacher (°) for 13 and a climber for 20 years. I'm also part of the BWWC which is a group of like minded adventurers. We created this series of microadventure events to inspire cachers to venture out and do the adventurous caches.

You are still here? Good! Trust me - I can also think of a million reasons why this is a stupid idea! And this is why we are doing this and not hiding behind another excuse. Life is just too short for boring. Think about how big your smile will be on Friday morning.

Adventure is out there

Cheers
Ranger Philipp

Safety Warnings

  • Climbing is an intrinsically dangerous activity. You could be seriously injured or killed, even by events beyond your control, by taking part in climbing activities.
  • Climbing is a team activity. It is typical for people with whom you are climbing to hold your life in their hands (e.g. belaying). Only climb with people you trust. If you are not sure then don’t climb.
  • The safety issues relevant to climbing outdoors are totally different to those involved with indoor gym climbing. We encourage you to use safe climbing practices but any climbing you undertake is at your own risk.
  • The BWWC cannot guarantee your safety 100%. You are personally responsible for your own safety, which includes choosing where and what you climb, what gear you use (whether it’s yours or anyone else’s), and with whom you climb.
  • It is a requirement that all participants wear helmets at all times whilst climbing or belaying, or whenever above or below a cliff or a climbable structure.
  • No persons who are under the influence of alcohol are permitted to participate.
  • If your gear is deemed to be inappropriate or unsafe, we can't allow it to be used.
  • Any advice or recommendation on climbing equipment given to you by BWWC members is not to be taken as any warranty that the equipment is fit for the purpose of climbing or of the performance of the equipment.
  • If you feel uncomfortable about any of the above, the answer is simple – do not climb! We do not mean to frighten you off; we just want to make sure that you understand the risks involved and are prepared to accept personal responsibility for these risks.
