First of all, be aware that the published coordinates take you to this marker. These are not the true coordinates for the cache. The true coordinates can only be obtained by first visiting "'Deer's Another Cache" west of here.

Before satellite technology and GPS use, one of the definitions of "cache," according to Merriam-Webster, was "a hiding place, especially for concealing and preserving provisions or implements."

It's not hard to imagine that this park probably had REAL caches at one time, as this was the embarkation point for Native American canoe portages between the Bay of Green Bay and Lake Michigan. Storing provisions, equipment and supplies at this crossing spot seems likely, back before European settlement of the region and the building of the canal.

This is another of the lesser-known parks I seem to place caches in.

Although fairly secluded, be respectable of other park visitors and the environment around the cache.
