hobgoblinkiteflier: We did managed to retrieve the lost cache container from its secret hiding place, but I had second thoughts about reinstating the cache in the same location. However, on our way home, we spotted another good place for a replacement cache, on more level ground. Look out for Wow2, coming soon.

Geocache Description:

This cache is a small plastic container hidden in amongst the trees of Almondell Country Park. Nearby is the aqueduct that carries water from the river Almond to the Union Canal at Lin’s Mill. Parking is available from approximately dawn to dusk at either end of the park, please note the closing time to avoid being locked in.

I was originally going to call this cache "Aqueduct View", but you can't really see much because of the leaves on the trees. Take care near the cache site, as there is a steep slope. If you approach from the top of the steps you should be okay.

The 97acre park was originally the estate belonging to the Erskine family. The big house is no longer there, but the stables have been converted into the visitor centre. This is well worth the extra walk if approaching the cache from the South car park. They have an exhibition, aquarium, a wee tearoom and shop. There are also information leaflets and friendly staff to answer questions.
