Details for this Earthcache can be found from either land or sea. The landforms in question are wide spread in this area, however I chose this location due to the Negril Lighthouse being publicly (and freely) available during the day. The location is also visible from the many resort catamaran cruises that pass the point.
Your approach to the site by land or sea will give you drastically different viewpoints, but you can view the area and answer the questions from either location. If approaching from land, you may descend a staircase to sea level to get another view of the area.
Jamaica has had a rather unique geological history. It is situated above the North Carribean Plate boundary zone and was initially formed by volcanism 80-100 million years ago.
It was then submerged causing limestone and shale formations which are 10,000 feet thick (or more) in places. Overtime this limestone has been weathered and eroded resulting in the many pits and sink holes of the Karst region.
After being submerged, Jamaica was then raised again tectonically. The island is still being manipulated by plate tectonics and evidence shows that the South shore of the island is sinking, while the North shore is being raised.

1) What geological landforms can you see from this point?
2) How do you think the landforms in the immediate vicinity were formed?
3) Describe the quantity and size of reef formations in this area.
4) Post a photo of your party and your GPSr.
