Moraine Corners 2010

Saturday April 24, 2010 - 9am
South Shore - Windy Knob Shelter #3

Just over three years ago, somewhere in the area of 100 geocachers from near and far responded to a call for help from Moraine State Park. The mission was to scout out and locate the numerous boundary markers that line the edges of the park. The cost to have these markers located by professional surveyors would be astronomical. What better way to accomplish this goal than to call on the small segment of the population that actually finds hidden objects in remote locations for enjoyment. The effort, spearheaded by a dedicated crew from TRIGO, was a resounding success. A good portion of the markers were recovered and a good time was had by all.

Fast forward three years and we are again being asked to help out. To make this experience as enjoyable as possible, the park is providing us with a group camping area, a fire ring, and firewood for the weekend. You read that right...FREE CAMPING! In addition, the park will be providing hamburgers and hot dogs for our lunch on saturday.

A tentative schedule is as follows:

Friday April 23

5pm - the wee hours Free Camping - Spend some time around the campfire with your fellow geocachers. Bring campfire foods and all of your good stories!

Saturday April 24

9am - 9:30am                Registration
9:30am - 10am              Orientation
10am - 2pm                   Explore the park and find your assigned markers
2pm - 4pm                     PotLuck Lunch (Water and hot dogs / hamburgers will be provided by the park)
4pm - 7pm                     Head out for unfound markers, explore the park, etc.
7pm - the wee hours       Free Camping - Hope you still have some stories left!

Sunday April 25

Wake up and enjoy the day. Moraine State Park has what many consider to be one of the premiere disc golf courses in the country. A group may be heading out with spare frisbees to give newbies a shot if anyone is interested.

Point Selection

Some of the markers are VERY remote while others are within just a few strides of the nearest road so there is something for everyone. A list of the markers for which we will be looking can be found here. Feel free to take a look at the points and stake your claim on up to a half dozen of them. You will be instructed during the orientation period as to how to properly find and evaluate the markers.
