Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Town of Nepeuskun series. You will have to find all six in order to locate the final of the series. Each one contains part of the coordinates for the final. We put this series together to highlight the Town of Nepeuskun and some of its history. Hopefully you enjoy this series and learn a little about this beautiful, rural area in the southwestern corner of Winnebago County.

The cache is a micro that's hidden on DNR managed land which means that hunters could be present during the hunting season. The location isn’t more than 100 yards from the parking area off of Hwy 91 which is at N43 58.090, W088 51.972. Don't forget to write down the code for the coordinates to the final of the series. 1907(2)

On July 3, 1907 two storms ripped through the Town of Nepeuskun near the Koro area. Both took the form of tornados accompanied with rain and electrical phenomena. The first wrought immense damage, attended with fatalities about four miles east of Berlin while the second struck a little more to the west. The storm was the fiercest in the vicinity of the D. Y. Troxell farm. Here, to use the words of an eye witness, two clouds joined, one from the north and one from the south. One cloud nearly touched the ground and ripped and tore the Troxell home, barn and contents, so that scarcely a whole piece of furniture could be located. The house was thrown toward the south about fifty feet and then ripped and torn apart, while the barn was thrown toward the north and completely demolished. The clothing and bedding was strewn along the road and in the trees for miles and cattle were found in the pasture with their necks broke. Trees were were found impaled with boards and some were found with “beards” of straw embedded in their bark.

Mrs. Frank Draves, wife of the operator of the farm was blown 50 feet by the wind and died a few minutes after she was found. David Troxell was also blown a great distance and badly injured along with his two children. Mr. Troxell eventually died from his injuries. Many others were seriously injured from the storms. Thankfully there was one report of a little boy who survived, after he was carried away by the wind, when his clothing caught on a windmill and he hung there until someone came up and freed him.
