You are looking for a micro cache located on an old bridge. Please note - you can access the cache from the bridge itself, you do not need to go below or down onto the railroad tracks.
The bridge was built around 1910 as a way for vehicles traveling the Lincoln Highway to safely cross the railroad. The brick road leading to the bridge is a part of the original highway. The bridge remained in service until the 1980s, but is now used only for foot traffic.
While you are in the area, be sure to check out the Lincoln Highway exhibit adjacent to the old road. It is interesting to note how little the downtown Mount Vernon area has changed in the last 80 years.
