Po wybuchu I wojny swiatowej przy austriackim Ministerstwie Wojny powolano specjalny Wydzial Grobownictwa Wojennego, który zajal sie projektowaniem i budowa cmentarzy dla poleglych w walce zolnierzy. Na terenie bylej Galicji Zachodniej powstaly jedne z najpiekniejszych nekropolii tego okresu, których budowa byla zarzadzana przez Wydzial Grobownictwa Kraków. Na obszarze od Krakowa po Nowy Zmigród powstalo 400 staranie zaprojektowanych cmentarzy. Obszar zostal podzielony na mniejsze okregi, a kazdym z nich zarzadzal inny projektant. Okreg Tarnów jest najwiekszym pod wzgledem ilosci cmentarzy - w sumie wybudowano ich tam 62. Glównym kierownikiem artystycznym tego okregu byl Heinrich Scholz -wiedenski rzezbiarz. Zaprojektowal on wiekszosc cmentarzy tego okregu, sam równiez wykonal niektóre kamienne i drewniane rzezby.

Jego postac wspomina Jaroslav Hašek w slynnej powiesci "Przygody dobrego wojaka Szwejka". Scholz zostal tam opisany dosc niechlubnie, jako "dekujacy sie na tylach jednoroczny ochotnik".

After the outbreak of WWI, Austrian Department of War appointed special Department of War Cemeteries, to design and build cemeteries for the soldiers who fell during battles. In the area of former Western Galicia some of the most beautiful cemeteries at that time were built, and their construction was managed by Department of War Cemeteries in Kraków. In the area stretching from Kraków to Nowy Zmigród 400 well designed cemeteries were built. The area was divided into smaller regions, and every one had its own designer. Tarnów region is the biggest district regarding number of war cemeteries - with 62 cemeteries. Heinrich Scholz, a Viennese sculptor, was the main artistic director of this region. He designed most of individual cemeteries of this region, and made some stone and wooden sculptures himself.

There is a mention about him in a famous novel by Jaroslav Hašek "The Good Soldier Švejk". Scholz was described there as "one-year volunteer swinging the lead at the rear".
