Few people realize that a school bus driver has to have a commercial drivers license which is much more in depth than a standard DL. These truly professional drivers with a precious cargo.

Most folks don't take a second notice of school bus drivers except when they are in a hurry and the bus is in their way. A lot of people don’t even realize how much harder it is to drive a bus compared to a car just because of the length and width… it is much harder to maneuver. Then add the stress of traffic and distraction of noise. Here in the northern states, add the high stress of winter driving. School bus drivers are under paid because of budget issues in EVERY school district and actually work longer hours than they are paid for. It is best summed up by the ‘story” of a single local driver. This driver also happens to be a fellow geocacher… Hi Wolf-Running, “All Bus Drivers prefer to be in the background or quite to what they do. We work about 10 to 11 hours a day and get payed for 6 of those hours sometimes less. Our pay is approximately $14 K a year. Well below poverty. There are many reasons that us Bus Drivers continue the Job. In my case, I was injured on a previous job, and that job claimed I had a previous injury so I was let go. I lost a well paying job, lost my home, became indebted and lost my American Dream. I love being a Bus Driver. Yes, it is the Young'ns, watching them mature each year you see them. Bus Drivers are hard to find and keep, I drove Semi for 22 years which I liked doing also, but because of my injury I am not able to get back into that type of job again. So to talk about the Bus Drivers may not be what you would expect. We are all good people. Many of us have College Degrees, Tech Degrees, and well educated. You just don't see that looking at a Bus rolling down the roadway. I am not going to say anything about the Pluses or Negatives about the Busing Job. Because we hold our heads up high and We Smile.”

So, next time you see a school bus driver, give them a thumbs up from the heart! Remember… the kids they are driving might be the ones who will be taking care of you when you’re old.

Congrats to skullcrusher5 and rattledbox for co-FTF 40 minutes after it was first listed. Rattledbox... now you know that the line between friends or family and competitors is very distinct when it comes to FTF!!
