"Save the clock tower! Save the clock tower. Mayor Wilson is sponsoring an initiative to replace that clock. Thirty years ago, lightning struck that clock tower, and the clock hasn't run since. We at the Hill Valley Preservation Society think it should be preserved exactly the way it is, as a part of our history and heritage!"
While it hasn't been featured in a movie nor has it been struck by lightning, the clock tower that adorns New London's former City Hall also has trouble telling the correct time. There are actually three clocks on the tower. As you face the building the front and left clocks are at this time inoperable (and I presume they aren't going to get fixed anytime soon). The clock on the right side of the tower does work (but may not tell the correct time!), so for this cache, use the front and left clocks as you face City Hall.
To get the coordinates to WP2, the first thing you're going to need to do is convert the time that shows on the clocks to military time (The link provided is a conversion chart for military time).
Here is the equation:
NORTH: Take the date that City Hall was built minus the military time of the front clock minus three. This will=BAK
WEST: Take the date that City Hall was built and minus off the military time for the clock on the left side and add 416 to get TTF. **NOTE-For this equation, round up or down to the nearest 10 minute mark on the clock.**
OK, now you've done the math, but did you use the correct military time? Remember, with military time, there are two possible numbers for each time. If the time on the clock shows 5:00, it could be either 05:00 hours (5 am) or 17:00 hours (5 pm). Which one is correct? Here's a hint: In Back to the Future, think about what time Doc Brown was out hooking up the wires to the clock...daytime (AM) or nighttime (PM)? Of course, you could do the math on both sets of times and see which one is correct!
If you haven't seen BTTF, this clip is a good indicator as to whether Doc was sending Marty back to 1985 in the AM or PM. (you should only need to watch a few seconds of the clip...)
The final is an ammo can, however, there is only room for a little swag and TB's/geocoins. Please, please be careful with the contents of the final as the parts are only glued down and could be easily damaged if handled. Please use the installed eye hooks to remove the scene and replace as found. Resist the temptation to touch or move any of the scene. What you find when you first open the container is NOT SWAG. It is part of the cache and I'd appreciate it being returned as you found it. The logbook/swag/TB's will be at the bottom of the cache. Please do not place any swag on top of the scene. If parts should come loose or unglued, just let me know in your log and I'll get it fixed up. Thank you and enjoy the cache!
The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to the Wisconsin DNR Field Office for Outagamie County/Jacob Fries. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager. The DNR Notification form and land manager information can be obtained at: http://www.wi-geocaching.com/hiding.
Both stages are available around the clock (pardon the pun). City Hall and the clocks are lit up well enough to do at even the darkest hour.
Congrats to BuckyCachers on the FTF and to isjustus4 on #600!
