Historia budovy
Budova, postavena v secesnom style, architektom Quidom Hoepfnerom, bola uvedena do prevadzky v roku 1904 (od roku 1963 chraneny pamiatkovy objekt) ako prvy velky tatransky hotel. Najvacsi podiel na jeho vybudovani mal Gustav Hoepfner starsi (brat Quida Hopfnera), vtedajsi riaditel Spisskej uverovej a priemyselnej banky z Levoce, ktora bola investorom tejto secesnej nadhery a mala Stary Smokovec v prenajme od roku 1881 od mlynickych urbarialistov. Je najmajestatnejsou stavbou Stareho Smokovca, prvej tatranskej osady zalozenej v roku 1797.
Do prizemnych spolocenskych priestorov vedu velke oblukovo zaklenute okna a dvere. Prve a druhe poschodie ma hladku fasadu s rozmanitymi lodziami a arkiermi. Hrazdenie obvykle na poschodiach miestnych stavieb, pouzil architekt iba na stresnych stitoch a nadstavbach. Zmes rozmanitych prvkov stavieb tohto typu vytvorila v Tatrach ich prvu architektonicku vlnu, ktoru niekedy povazuju za autenticky tatransku, hoci je typickym medzinarodnym produktom europskych horskych stredisk.
V rokoch 1929 - 1935 uviedli do prevadzky pristavbu typizovanej restauracie v lavom kridle budovy - Taverna.
History of the building
Building, built in Art Noveau style,(architect Quido Hoepfner) was put in operation in 1904 (since 1963 historically protected object) as the first big Tatra hotel. The biggest contribution to its construction was made by Gustav Hoepfner senior (brother Quido Hoepfner), managing director of the Spis savings and industrial bank from Levoca at that time, which sponsored all this secessional beauty and had Stary Smokovec in rents since 1881 by forest owners from Mlynica. It is the most majestic building of the Stary Smokovec, first Tatra settlement set up in 1797.
To a ground floor public spaces shall enter across large arc vaulted windows and doors. The first and second floor has a smooth facade with varied balcony and oriel. Half-timbered usually at the storeys local buildings, the architect used the only for roof gables and superstructure. A mixture of various elements buildings of this type of establish in Tatras their first architectural wave, are sometimes seen as Tatra authentic, although it is a typical product of international European mountain resorts.
Between the years 1929 and 1935, an additional building of a typified restaurant was put into operation in the left wing of building – called Taverna.
