Timms Hill County Park is home to Wisconsin's Highest Point.
Timms Hill County Park is located in the southeast portion of Price County and consists of mostly forested land, with 2 lakes, Timms Lake to the north and Bass Lake to the south. The park contains numerous hiking trails, including part of the Ice Age Trail, 1 of only 8 National Scenic trails in the US.
At 1,951.5 feet above sea level, Timms Hill is the high point for the state of Wisconsin, which ranks as the 39th state in order of elevation.
Timms Hill is located in the north central part of the state, near the small town of Ogema, WI. It is the only state highpoint located within a county park.
There's a lookout tower guarding the summit. The wooden tower is about 15 meters high and easily climbed via stairs for great views looking to the north, south and east. There's a geological survey marker located under the steel tower right next to the wooden tower.
Timms Hill County Park is located near where the great glaciers that covered much of the northern United States stopped. This area is known as the terminal moraine.
More than 10,000 years ago, the great glaciers, sheets of ice over a mile thick, covered much of the northern United States. As they were forming, the slow-moving glaciers ground bedrock into fine powder and transformed a rough terrain into rolling plains. The ice stopped short of southwestern Wisconsin, leaving that part
of the state to be known as the “Driftless Area”.
Defination of Moraine: Jumbled hills of unsorted, unstratified glacial debris found at the sides or front of a glacier.
These terrain features are most visible near what was the edge of the glaciers, known as the terminal moraine. This is the boundary where the glaciers stopped and began melting.
There's a lot of history here at the park, hours are 7:30 am to Dusk. There is a Shelter, Restrooms, and Trails. The hike from the parking area to the summit is 300 yards, always practice Leave no Trace, only take Memories. Stay on the established trails, prevent erosion.
