Geocache Description:

DeKoven Center is a historic jewel in Racine - stately Gothic architecture, beautiful gardens, fascinating history.  Only thing lacking is a cache - until now.

The DeKoven Center began as Racine College, founded in 1852.  Racine College was an Episcopal College which served as a preparatory school for secondary school aged boys.  In 1859 Dr. James DeKoven became Warden of the college and gave the campus its focus - the quadrangle shape of the campus was modeled after colleges in Oxford and Cambridge, England.  Faculty and students shared dormatories, worshipped daily in St John's Collegiate Church, and ate together in the Great Hall.  Under DeKoven's leadership Racine College became a prominent institution of higher learning.

Some notable students of Racine College:  General Mark Clark; Brig General William 'Billy' Mitchell; John Winslow, Chief Justice WI Supreme Court; Tad Lincoln, son of President Abraham Lincoln.

St John's Collegiate Church is listed in the US National Register of Historic Places.

The college motto "Vigeat Radix" (May the Root Thrive) still rings true today with the work of the DeKoven Foundation.

Take time to wander through the campus and appreciate the beauty and history of the grounds. This is a popular setting for weddings and retreats so some stealth may be required.  Your journey to the cache begins at Park Hall - the first building erected on Racine College Campus.

The next stop is a Memorial for Dr. James DeKoven - N42 42.3??  W087 47.1??  (only use the last two digits of years for the math)
What year was Park Hall built?  Subtract 29 for the missing N coordinates
What year did Park Hall burn?  Subtract 08 for the missing W coordinates

Now you're ready to find the cache - N42 42.2??  W087 47.1??
What year was Dr. James DeKoven born?  Add 67 for the missing N coordinates
What year did Dr. James Dekoven die?  Subtract 36 for the missing W coordinates

The cache is easily accessible from the path - no need to disturb any of the flora.  Cache contains trinkets & trade items - share and enjoy!

I'd like to thank Mr Max Dershem, Executive Director of The DeKoven Center, for permission to place this cache.

Congratulations to Tom K. - FTF
