SCCB Hagge Park Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

SCCB: This cache was a part of a letterbox challenge set up in 2012. Due to staff changes at the conservation board the boxes were left out after the challenge. So long in fact that it took until 2017 for them to be collected. SCCB is so glad that many could enjoy them in the 5 years they were out and we are working on getting new hides out in all the county conservation board areas including a new one in this area by Fall 2017!

Geocache Description:

The Sac County Conservation Board (SCCB) is hosting a letterbox challenge event GC code GC3PRQ0 on August 4th 2012. This is 1 of 10 caches placed for this event. Find this one and the others to claim a NICE prize at their event. You will have approximately 2 weeks to claim all 10 before the event. The caches will still be available after event is over. Get outside and see what the SCCB has to offer.

This 86 acre park lies along the North Raccoon River approximately 2 1/2 miles south of Sac City of county highway D-42 and serves as the headquarters of the Sac County Conservation Board. Hagge Park is a mostly wooded park with a mix of oak, hickory, and ash trees and is a great place for fishing, canoeing, camping, picnicking and hiking.
Hagge Park has 15 shaded campsites with water, sewer and electrical (30 amp) hookups. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table and the restroom/shower building is nearby as well. A 12’ x 16’ camping cabin is also available on a reservation basis. The cabin includes heat/air conditioning, a refrigerator, microwave and sleeps up to six people. There is also a covered porch, picnic table, and fire ring for outdoor activities. Camping facilities are open April 1 through October 31, weather permitting.

Hagge Park has an enclosed shelterhouse that can be reserved for graduations, family reunions and meetings, as well as for picnics. The shelterhouse has indoor restrooms, a fireplace, outdoor grills and seats approximately 100 people, and is open from April 1 through December 1.

A lowhead dam can be found in the Raccoon River in Lower Hagge, creating challenging and exciting fishing opportunities. The river is home to many species of game fish including walleye, channel and flathead catfish, and smallmouth bass. Bowhunting is also allowed within Hagge Park during the appropriate seasons, but firearms are not allowed in the park.
