Geocache Description:

This is a well-stocked ammo can I received at Hike N Seek 2012 hidden in the Babcock Woods.

Outfly (or Ausflug) is an old German tradition of taking a day off and spending time outside. It began at Wartburg in the form of Winter maintenance. When Wartburg College was very small, when a nice Fall day arrived the college would cancel classes so that the students could spend the day raking leaving, putting up storm windows and winterizing the campus. Once the college grew in size and hired its own maintenance staff the tradition changed, to a spontaneous day off from classes. On a Fall day when the weather was nice the students would petition the college president to call Outfly.

The tradition has changed over time. Now Wartburg College will call a spontaneous holiday, named "Outfly" at some point in October when the weather is nice. Many students have chosen not to study for an upcoming exam on the mistaken belief that Outfly was sure to cancel classes the next day, only to face the harsh reality.

On Outfly 2012 I took the opportunity to spend some time outside hiding this cache. There used to be an old cache in this area, but it went missing and the owner opted not to replace the cache. The ammo can was filled with some high quality goodies, so bring some good trading items.

Babcock Woods is a Cache In Trash Out (CITO) area. Please collect garbage on your way to the cache site. Hunting is allowed in many Bremer County parks and all wildlife areas at certain times of the year, although there is no hunting allowed in Babcock Woods.
