Geocache Description:

The End?

The Mayan people were specialists in time. They developed over 17 calendars, each with a different purpose that guided the rhythms of Mayan society. We marvel at the precision and complexity of these calendars without understanding how they were actually used. The solar calendar (Haab) calculated the year more accurately than our present one, but was based on a 360-day tun (year). The sacred calendar (Tzolk’in) used a 20-day count matched with 13 numbers, but was purely numeric. The Long Count gave each day unique numeric and glyph codes, covering unbelievable time spans, but the Maya stopped using it in the Terminal Classic period. Only one stela contains glyphs for December 21, 2012, and then abruptly ends. Did the Maya predict  "Doomsday" for us? Is this the end?

Come and join us for what could be the last Geocaching event ever! Whether this is really the end or not, it sounds like a great reason to get together, talk Geocaching, share trackables, and eat! At least we'll go out happy!

This event will start at 7:00 pm and take place at "Wendy's" in Norfolk, NE

Wireless internet is not available, however some mobile "hot spots" will be available! Wendy's has many great food items, but no purchase is required to join in the fun.
Please try to let us know in advance if you plan to be there by posting a "Will Attend" so we can have tables ready.
