Geocache Description:

I am not sure if there has been a CITO in the Terre Haute area ever.  But if so, it has been a while and we are long overdue.

There is an ongoing project in the river front area to clean up the wetlands and turn them into a beautiful nature preserve with trails and park like amenities being added all the time for our enjoyment.  However, there is a huge problem with trash and debris along the river front and along the new trails that have been added.  That's where you can help!

You can participate in a  wetlands cleanup on Sunday, October 27th.  The Volunteers will meet on the west side of the Arena at 9:30 am and should plan to work for no more than 2 hours.  We will finish by noon.  We are targeting the Riverbank from Dresser to I-70.  If the water is high or the turn out very large, we will work on the strip pits south of West Terre Haute.  Trash bags and garden gloves will be provided but I personally will also bring along a bit heavier glove just in case.  Volunteers should wear clothing appropriate for work in the woods.  All of the trash that we collect will be hauled off for us by the Riverscape Planning Commitee.

We are getting help from the kids at ISU.  Some from the athletic department will be joining us for the morning and some from the Conservation Department as well.  This will help to make our work load lighter and it always helps to have some young healthy folks to drag up any tires we might find! :)

If you haven't participated in a CITO yet or would just like to, here is your chance.  Hopefully it will be early enough in the Fall season to have cooled off for us.  I will provide other parking options if you should choose to leave your car near the park and trails where we are working.  However, there is not a lot of parking available and transportation via bus from the arena is going to be provided for us.  You can park your car in a nice safe area as well. The coordinates for additional parking, (provided as a waypoint) should you choose to drive to the site, will bring you to about 1/2 mile from where the work will begin. You simply follow the trail to the East.

We hope many many of you will come out and help! BTW: there are caches in that area if you haven't already gotten them ;)
