Geocache Description:

OPOZORILO:

V cerkvi so pogosto koncerti resne glasbe in obredi cerkvene poroke.

Oltarji:

glavni oltar sv. Volbenka iz začetka 17. stoletja; s tronom je zakrita slika sv. Volbenka Alojzija Šubica, naslikana v Munchnu l. 1891;

južni stranski oltar sv. Petra je delo mizarja Valentina Ottla iz l. 1693, sliko je naslikal Jurij Remp;

The church of St. Volbenk is located on terraced promontory overlooking the valley of Poljanska Sora. It is well visable from the valley. In front of it offers a beautiful view on the current of Poljanska Sora, surrounding hills and Tavčar country manor in Visoko pri Poljanah. St. Volbenk is among the most beautiful Slovenian samples of late renaissance in the turn into baroque.

St. Volbenk was venerated as the patron saint of shepherds, woodcutters, charcoal burners and carvers. All the prayers who had eye problems, abdominal pain, problems with blood flow, strokes and leg pain recommended to him.

In the begining of the 20th century church was still visited by a lot of blind pilgrims. Nowdays there is no more pilgrims, but remains mighty church with two niche on the wall for confessionals.
There are often organized concerts and wedding ceremonies. Catholic Mass is held every first sunday in august.

The early Baroque church was built in the second half of the 17th century. In the architectural sense it presents a special, locally typically building type (the so-called Škofja Loka arcitectual type, represented by near churches on Malenski vrh, Gorenja vas, the Capuchin church in Škofja Loka), which is expressed especially in the organization of space, floor plan design, valut schemes and decorative ornaments, which are followed also by the internal equipment (the main altar occupies the entirepresbytery wall). The architecture expressesthe semicircular openings in the north-western (main) facade and they clingthe nave (the church's floor plan is turned from the standard east-west direction due to the terrain and visual effect (views from the eastern and western side of the valley).

The belfry caps were reconstrructed after a longstanding emergency solution (metal pyramid roofs) in 2007 to the original onion-like roof.
