Geocache Description:

English Version

This is a simple multicache in and around the port of Meschers-sur-Gironde. You will visit the port, collect a few clues and then walk a short distance to a quieter area to discover the cache.

The port of Meschers has existed for centuries but is now mainly used by pleasure craft, although there are still some commercial fishing vessels. There are regular boat trips organised from the port in the tourist season to visit the estuary, the Cordouan lighthouse or for private fishing excursions. There are several restaurants and cafes. Looking south-west there is a good view, especially at high tide, towards Talmont and its famous church built on the cliffs. (Don't miss our multicache 'Le Tour de Talmont'! GC51P3H)

There is a tidal basin with lock gates. These may be open or closed depending on the tides. Be careful by the lock gates - especially with children !
