Des bonbons ou la vie ?
Le mot anglais "Halloween" viendrait de l'expression "All Hallow Eve" désignant la veille de la fête des Saints, ou la Toussaint. Ce serait en 1048 que le 1er Novembre est devenu le jour des morts.
Chez les Celtes, principalement les Gaulois, installés en Europe il y a plus de trois-mille ans, la veille du Nouvel An se célébrait le 31 Octobre. Selon la légende, la nuit du 31 Octobre les fantômes des morts rendaient visite aux vivants et pour apaiser les esprits, les villageois déposaient des offrandes devant leurs portes. Mais, pour s'assurer que les mauvais esprits passeraient leur chemin, on se revêtait en plus de costumes épouvantables et l'on se maquillait de façon effrayante.
La culture celte disparut peu à peu en France, alors qu'elle se développait en Irlande, Ecosse et Pays de Galle. La famine conduira les émigrés irlandais jusqu'aux Etats-Unis où se répandra largement cette coutume. Devenue fête nationale aux USA à la fin du XIXème siècle, Halloween est à nouveau célébrée en France depuis la fin du XXème siècle.
Dans les années 90, à l'initiative d'un groupe d'étudiants, Limoges devint la capitale française d'Halloween et les médias nationaux et internationaux relatèrent les nombreuses animations. Au sommet de sa gloire le défilé attira jusqu’à 3000 personnes. Depuis, la fête est redevenue plus confidentielle.

Pourquoi "VERT" ?
Ma première cache posée (GC3VHY2) était une boîte verte, avec un stylo vert, un log book vert et des objets d'échange verts. Ainsi est née l'idée de placer les caches qui ont suivi sous le signe du "VERT" et de proposer un défi consistant à y déposer de préférence des objets "VERTs".

Trick or treat ?
The English word "Halloween" would come from the expression "All Hallow Eve" indicating the day before the All Saints' Day. It would be in 1048 when the 1st November became the day of the deaths.
At the Celts, mainly the Gauls, settled in Europe more than three thousand years ago, the day before the New Year celebrated October 31st. According to the legend, at night of October 31st the ghosts of the deaths visited the alive and to calm the spirits, the villagers put deposited offerings in front of their doors. But, to make sure that evil spirit would cross spend their path way, we put on besides dreadful costumes and we made up in a terrible way.
The Celtic culture disappeared little by little in France, while it developed in Ireland, the Scotland and Country of Gall. The famine will drive the Irish emigrants to the United States where will spread widely this custom. Become national holiday in the USA at the end of the 19th century, Halloween is again celebrated in France since the end of the 20th century.
In the 90s, on the initiative of a group of students, Limoges became the French capital of Halloween and the national and international media told the numerous animations. At the top of its glory the parade attracted up to 3000 persons. Since that period, the holiday became again more confidential.

Why "VERT" ?
My first geocache (GC3VHY2) was a green box, with a green pen, a green log book and green items for exchange. So was born the idea to place the caches which followed under the sign of the "VERT" ("GREEN" in French) and to propose a game consisting in depositing there rather "VERT" objects.
