Geocache Description:

A small cache on the main square of Malmö. Don't miss the stone that is said to have given Malmoe its name.
Ein kleiner Cache auf dem Hauptplatz von Malmö

Don't forget to challenge yourself with the gadget cache just a short stroll away: Malmö C - STOPiT!.

Stortorget is as big as 2 500 square metres. It's often used for events, such as the annual Malmö festival. Horse sports and concerts are also arranged here. But the square's history goes further back in time. Stortorget is Malmö's oldest square and was constructed by mayor Jörgen Kock in the 1530's. Nowadays you find a statue of king Karl X, the king who made Skåne Swedish in 1658, on Stortorget. Stortorget is surrounded by a number of buildings such as the City hall, the Residence, the house of Jörgen Kock, Hotel Kramer and the old pharmacy Lejonet ("The Lion"). In the late 16th century, a water reservoir used to supply the buildings close to Stortorgte with water. Today, there is a fountain where the reservoir used to be, as a reminder of passed centuries.
30 meters SW just in front of the statue there is a stone from a Mill. It might date back to the 13th or 14th centuries.. The stone is said to have given Malmoe it's name. Once a maid fell into the mill and died thru was grinding. Local folklore says that is how Malmö was given its name. Mal-mö means grinded-maid. True? Who knows.

!!During concerts/events this site/cache access may or may not be restricted!!

The Cache needs to be refitted low on the object it is attached to. Else it will not stay in place.
