Geocache Description:

The caches I have hidden, are hidden in places I think tourists should visit, but not are on the usual tourist trails. There are many muggles in the area, so please read the hint carefully, and be discreetly when trying to find the cache.

When you’re on the corner between Abel Cathrines Gade and Viktoriagade, you’re in the heart of Vesterbro. The name "Vesterbro" literally translates into English as "Western Bridge", and refers to the paved road leading into the city through the Western Gate. Vesterbro is the area of the bridge into the city of Copenhagen, which was a much smaller city at the time when the name was created. At that time, the city was ringed by a moat which exist today as the Tivoli lake and others.

The area is under the process of being renovated to a great extent and the renovation will end in 2017.The environment and sustainability is one of the essential reasons for the renovation. Vesterbro has a central location that makes it a favoured place to live. It has had a reputation as a center for prostitution and drug trafficking, where only the poorest would live, and there is still a certain amount of these activities in the area, especially on Istedgade and near Halmtorvet, but there has been police focus on clearing up troublesome areas.

Also here in the heart of Vesterbro, there have been (and sometimes still are) problems related with drugs and prostitution.

But as you can see, the street has become quite cosy, and a center for restaurants and drink good beers. Here are several famous restaurants. You can get Thai, spanish, french, vietnamese and danish food. Here are 2 beerbars, one of them, Mikkeler, is quite famous. You can drink a coffee and get a danish in the cosy Woodah Hostel, where you can sleep cheap and exercise yoga as well. Tante T is also a favoured place, for enjoying good the, in a homely and cosy surroundings.

So when you visit this cache, I hope you enjoy one of the hidden gems of Vesterbro, get away from the big tourist stream and enjoy the local shops. (Don’t forget to try an african Fanta at Samuels place, the African Shop, it’s delicious)

I live at this place, but I’m not associated to any shop/restaurant/bar. Nor do I get money for this.
