Limited parking near the gate (DO NOT BLOCK) at N 43° 26.049 / W 089° 41.852. This cache is located in a little used portion of Devil's Lake State Park, (Sticker Fees still apply for parking), and by using "unofficial" trails, you should be able to arrive at the cache area without too much bushwhacking. (Bushwacking can have its downs and ups and prickly ash here.)
There is one crossing of a small beautiful creek (no bridge), no stupendous views, and no rocks to climb. (DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE DURING OR AFTER A HEAVY RAIN EVENT, AS THE "SMALL BEAUTIFUL CREEK" MAY BE UNCROSSABLE!!!) Great for birdwatching, wildflower and wildlife enjoyment in an area away from the usual Devil's Lake crowds.
Note: There are two environmentally and geocacher friendly ways down to the creek located at N43* 26.182 W089* 41.619 (Shortest), and N43* 26.100 W089* 41.561 (Longer and a little trickier). The fields are DNR owned, but leased out...so PLEASE STAY ON THE EDGES OF THE FIELDS WHEN CROPS ARE PLANTED. THANKS!
Updated Note 2005: This is a replacement of the Devil's Lake Outback Cache that has gone missing. The new area is away from the old cache site, and therefore available for re-logging by previous finders.
This is a great four seasons cache (except during deer hunting), as in the winter the area is great for backcountry x-country skiing (no tracks) and snowshoeing. You're searching a painted ammo can with a camo top. Happy trails and we hope you enjoy your hunt.
