Geocache Description:

Start your journey on the Cliff Trail that begins at the gate near parking and grab the other caches in the area along the way. All the trails needed to succesfully navigate to GZ are shown on the official Geocacing app. on your phone. The trails are quite extensive in this area and you should have little to no problem getting around.

The container is a small and can hold a few small trinkets if you wish to leave or take something. There is a modest prize for FTF.

About GZ:
The Pennsylvania Coal Company's Gravity Railroad was constructed in 1850 as a means to haul coal from Port Griffith to Hawley, PA by the use of inclines planes that hauled a string of cars uphill. The cars would then coast down under the power of gravity to the next plane. The gravity railroad was in use until 1885 before it was replaced by a steam line constructed by the Erie and Wyoming Railroad.

GZ coordinates takes you the Mt. Cobb Tunnel and it was part of the now abandoned Gravity Railroad that once ran between the area of Port Griffith and Hawley, PA. The tunnel is 755 feet long and was constructed using drills and black powder. The tunnel was created because cresting the top of the mountain otherwise would have required another lifting plane and also a descending plane to control the rail cars descent speed from the top of the mountain. Building of the tunnel allowed the cars to coast freely by gravity alone without the added infrastructure. Both photos were taken from the west entrance.
