Geocache Description:

This is a virtual cache for those of you living on or visiting the island of Oahu.

Update Feb 2024: Reservations are required to park. Visit the dlnr.hawaii.gov for more info. Most likely this cache will be near where you are staying and will be a nice diversion from the beach with some great views of South Oahu. We marked the cache on the next to last day of our honeymoon. After 7 incredible days in Maui, we had a little culture shock when we hit bustling Waikiki. The hike to the top, while still crowded, was a refreshing change of pace and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We very much enjoyed the virtual caches that we found on both Maui and Oahu during our vacation so we decided to share the fun and mark one of our own. This is a virtual multi-cache. To claim the cache you only need to complete the first part. To complete part 1, visit the general vicinity of the cache coordinates (no Internet "finds") and answer the following two questions: 1) What was this area used for from 1908 to 1950? 2) What is the Hawaiian name for the area and one of its translations? E-mail us with the answers at team.geoquest@gmail.com and log your find. We hope that you will also complete the second part of this multi-cache. For part 2, hike to the very top of the trail and post a picture of yourself over Waikiki for all of us to enjoy. We have posted one of our own. The Difficulty and Terrain ratings are based on logging part 1 of the cache. The hike to the top is a bit challenging but most anyone should be able to do it. Be sure to bring good shoes, water, and an optional flashlight. Happy Trails … Team GeoQuest … Jack and Melissa
