Old 470 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

brdad: After just under 11 years (10 years, 11 months, 3 weeks, 4 days to be exact), the bittersweet time has come to archive this cache. Old 470 has been purchased by New England Steam and a fence is being erected around the train so they can perform preventive maintenance until the funds and time come to hopefully bring this local icon back to operating condition. Anyone wishing to contribute to or read more about the restoration efforts are encouraged to visit their web site http://www.newenglandsteam.org/ and/or their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/NewEnglandSteam.

I would like to thank all the cachers who chose to search for this cache over the years and all of the stories and great comments that were shared. It seems to have been a memorable cache for several cachers.

New England Steam has offered to return the cache to me and at that time I will inventory the cache to see if any of the travel bugs listed as being in the cache are still there.

Thanks again!

Geocache Description:

Located In Waterville, Maine, not far from downtown.

Cache is a little larger than normal micro (about 3" x 2.25" x 4.5") well disguised and sheilded from the elements. It seems finders get excited and forget just where they found this cache, so try and notice where you take it from and replace it in the same location.

Do not climb on the train! There are currently several no trespassing signs on the train placed there so that people will not climb on it and get hurt. You are allowed to use the park and enjoy the train from the ground.

NOTE: There is also a letterbox at this location. Please make sure you have found the actual cache when you log this find. It IS NOT a plastic food storage container. When you open the cover, it will say Old 470 on the inside of the lid. If you are unsure, ask or look at the spoiler pic below.
