El Jameo

[read english description below]
[deutsche Beschreibung weiter unten]

Bitte Stift mitbringen!

[English:]

A "Jameo" is a tunnel, that has been created by volcanic activities. When the lava flows out of the volcano, the outside walls start to conceal while the hot magma inside still flows. You'll see onion-like structures in the stones when you get there which is very impressive and beautiful as well.
Thes tunnels are not very stable on Lanzarote because of the basalt-like substance which is porous.
Most of the time they crash in and you can have a view inside of this magma bubbles.
The longest Jameo on Lanzarote is about seven kilometer. It is a Stream of magma erupted from Monte Corona a couple of thousand years ago. (Inside this one there are the famous "Jameos del Agua" and "Cuevas de los Verdes").

The Jameo in question that holds the cache is located in the Timanfaya-Area, and can be visited legally and for free.

Leave your car at: N 29.00.391 W 013.41.091

The entrance into the jameos is to be found at:
N 29.00.444   W 013.41.229

and further up the volcanoe you can see the jameo fully where it had cracked in:
N 29.00.434   W 013.41.263

Further going to the top is "Terrain 4", but you'll get an impressive view there into a huge cave:
N 29.00.418   W 013.41.293

Caution: The Stones are pretty crumbly. I do NOT recommend to go inside of the caves. This is because:
a) Any shock by walking inside ( a cry or a lose stone...) could force the system to collapse.
b) Though an actual collapse might not be very likely, you could be hurt by falling down stones. Without a helmet and special gear and guide I do not recommend to go inside.
The view from there into the lava-fields of newly erupted old vulcano is impressive.

Please bring a pencil with you.

Please note that the current box is a small (almost micro) container about 3x3x3 inches with a blue lid.

Please hide the container in the same way as you have found it. There are several guided tours to this attraction and we don't want to have it muggled again. New spoiler pics available
