Traveling thru Purgatory
Early settlers, traveling to Excelsior along an old Indian trail, came to springs around dusk. The road here was the worst they had traveled over, the land was swampy and the mosquitoes were dreadful. One of them said, "This is Hell!!" "No, it's even worse," another replied, "It's Purgatory."
FINDERS INSTRUCTIONS
This is a 2-stage moving cache. The first stage cache is a small hanging cache which contains the coordinates of the final cache, which is a small size peanut butter jar with a blue lid. The final cache originally contained an assortment of small tools.
The first stage small cache never moves. The second stage cache is allowed to move within and only within Purgatory Park. gc.com has approved this limited amount of travel. You may log a find for this cache as many times as you like as long as it has been moved by someone else since the last time you logged the cache.
First, seek the first stage small cache. No bushwhacking is involved; it is hanging up on flat ground within 15 feet of an easy trail. Do not rehide the first stage to make it harder to find. Insure that the first stage cache is replaced in its proper location about 1 feet off the ground, where it will be safe from all but the worst snowfalls.
Inside the first stage small cache is a small book with the coordinates of the final cache. The coordinates to use for the final cache will be the most recently dated coordinates that you find in the book. These coordinates should take you to the final cache, which will be somewhere within Purgatory Park in Minnetonka.
Please leave a note on this website if you discover that the coordinates for the final cache are outside the park, anywhere on private property, or otherwise violate common sense or generally accepted rules for cache placement.
MOVERS INSTRUCTIONS
You are encouraged, even urged, to move the final cache once you have found it. This will provide opportunities for people to log this cache many times. Even the cache owner will get to log this cache!
The cache is REQUIRED to remain within Purgatory Park. This limited amount of travel is my wish and has been approved by gc.com. This is a fairly large park and there are many great places to move this cache. Some near, some far. Be creative. As winter and snow approaches, please prefer hiding locations that are somewhat off the ground. You may make the cache hide as easy or as hard as you desire, just note the difficulty level in your comments.
Once you have located a suitable new hiding place for the cache, take an accurate coordinate measurement with your GPSr. Doing this right may take 5-10 minutes of your time, but its very important to get the coordinates correct so that the next person has a shot at finding the cache.
Next, return to the first stage small cache. Enter the date, your geocaching handle, and the new coordinates of the final cache in the book, using the next unused blank entry. Two small pencil stubs are provided for this purpose, but you may want to bring a pen/pencil with you just in case.
Finally, when you log your cache find, indicate in the comments that you have moved the cache. If you want, also leave an encrypted hint in your comments.
