This is a virtual picture cache. To claim a find you must take a
picture of the green building (or skytram building) just west of
the cache location. Your GPS must be clearly visible.
Your GPSr must be visible in your hand for
the photo to count as a valid find. Logs that do not conform to
this requirement will be deleted.
Getting There:
You first need to get yourself to
Badaling—there are organised tours for visitors; locals can
drive or take a bus. When you enter The Wall area, you have
two choices: left or right. If you go to the right, the climb
is not so steep, but there are many more people to contend
with. If you go to the left, the scenery is arguably better
and there are fewer people, however, the climb is steeper (as
reflected by the terrain rating), but there is a virtual
geocache to find.
The monument used to be located near the third tower (or the
second tower, depending on how you count them—let your GPSr guide
you). You need to descend a very steep staircase to access
it. There is no hand rail, but the staircase is narrow, and you can
steady yourself on the walls; be careful. The staircase is located
on the left, just before the tower as you approach from
Badaling.
Small note on cache maintenance: I am from
Australia, on the first of what will be regular visits to Beijing
on business. I chose to place this cache as a means of attracting
geocachers to The Great Wall (and also to provide some
entertainment for geocachers in Beijing—there is precious little
geocaching to be done here). I chose a virtual cache as it is
impossible to place a cache on the wall itself that won't be
discovered by muggles.
