Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the above coordinates!

The hide for a first cache is a highly personal thing. After choosing a location, I set out at noon to place my cache. A little over an hour later, I arrived at the coordinates (above) only to discover that the site was not at all appropriate. I glanced at my watch (a Rolex; you know, the kind with the sweep hand), only to discover that the hour and minute hands were PERFECTLY aligned. Queue lightbulb above head.

Quickly turning the watch so that the aligned hands were pointing due north (magnetic), I noted the direction of the second hand at the time of the alignment, and used this direction for a new bearing. How far to travel in statute miles? I divided the minute by the integer portion of the second (again, both at the time of the alignment). For simplicity, I rounded both the new bearing and distance to the nearest hundredth.

Arriving at the new location a little more than an hour later, I again found it to be wholly unsuitable. Glancing at my watch, I was quite suprised to again see the hour and minute hands PERFECTLY aligned. I repeated the process for determining a new bearing and distance.

In fact, I repeated this process again and again for the remainder of the day, each time finding no suitable place to hide the cache.

Finally, just over an hour before midnight that evening, I made my last projection and shortly thereafter arrived at the perfect location. After hiding the cache, I fumbled home in the dark -- exhausted. Waste of time?

Again, all bearings and distances should be rounded to the nearest hundredth.

Projections were used using GeoCalc, using the Vicenty (High Accuracy) mode. Remember that GeoCalc does true north projections, so before you do the projections, you'll need to adjust accordingly. For this lat/long, add 4.017 degrees.
